Sourced Based Essay

We as humans tend to evaluate what we decide based on emotions. Ever since we were little our minds have established certain characteristic traits and development which in case makes everyone of us different. Through our eyes, skin, hair texture, voice, fingerprint etc, we gain the knowledge that we are in fact individually unique. Though our similarities gain by genetic inheritance, this still doesn’t change the fact the billions of people in this world all carry differences in various things whether it be music, food, culture etc. However, there is something in particular that has crossed around everyone’s mind either once or multiple times throughout life. With all our differences, we all at one point have questioned (as we began to grow) the meaning of life. What’s our purpose the purpose of our existence? We always have had an unwired questioning thought that as time passed progressed. The topic of God can be reached, as this question would provoke controversy. The view between Atheism and Theism creates a huge role on how people view the world. Having this particular worldview identify each person’s thought process on how they act, behave and live.

Life itself is very complicated, by simply viewing how our brain reacts to heat because a nerve cell replicates receptors to indicate pain, simply goes to show how complicated the human body is. To go day by day, and reflect on the purpose of life is very important…. Maybe this is something you’ve really haven’t put mind to, but let’s go deeper with finding the different world views.

The book Atheism Explained: From Folly to Philosophy, illustrates the perspective of David Ramsay Steele who decides to indoctrinate his beliefs to the audience. He starts with giving multiple overviews on the religion that practices the belief in God. Steele goes in depth with multiple perspective that most theistic beliefs revolve around (expressing points on it). The main focus of his target is on Christians, Jews and Muslim, which all percieve similar aspect in the theistic realm. Steele writes that as babies, no one is born with the theistic belief, therefore everyone is born an Atheist, because the concept of God is nowhere near perceived in our little brains. Further on, Steele expresses the way in which religion was corrupted in the past, making various people persecuted for their “lack of faith’’. And shows the audience of 10 truths of the “Classical theism” which he expresses is the three main religion that holds the most theistic beliefs. The points consists of expressing God as a person, spirit, all-powerful, all-knowing, everywhere at once, and the list goes on. One of his claims, stated that Christianity and Islam are one of the most practiced religion in the world. He states, “ Fertility rates are falling in every country, but more slowly in the poorest countries, so Christainity and Islam are increasing their share of world population”. This means that the majority of the world is filled with christains and muslim becauise of this very fact. He also poses the question to the audience, on how despicable it is for anyone who believes in God, but no after life or vice versa be called that they’re incorrect. Steele tells the audience to merely rely on logical reasoning, because his world can be described through logical information, anything that reaches over that limit, rides themselves straight into failure. The tone Steele uses is more of a lecture type of tone, Steele is engaging a broad audience that are more based on secular beliefs. He is mainly expanding his explanation on behalf of the Atheistic worldview to express his idea on God. He provides more of a generalistic view of Atheism that can easily be understood by people. His purpose mainly showcases the way in which Atheism is necessary to live in a world of scientific evolution.
Atheism explained, falls under multiple genres such as historical nonfiction, scientific nonfiction and religious genre. Due to the fact that the author addresses multiple aspects of his claim it comes to the conclusion that there are a lot of elements of genres. When considering this book it is evident that the author is very biased. The aspect that is shown by Steel indicates that he is concluding based on his own personal view. Furthermore, Steele has a section in the book titled Can You Prove It ? Where he goes on to tell the audience/reader how proving God is nearly impossible to do so. He gives an example on how the Bible itself persuades to “Test everything” ( 1 Thessalonians 5:21) . By this verse, he completely argues that to ‘prove’ one must demonstrate or substantiate. He states, “ When scientists talk about proof, they may be referring to a purely mathematical and logical exercise, showing that a certain result follows from certain assumptions”. So the way that Steele puts his views, mainly tries to convey how science doesn’t in anyway prove that God exists. This makes the reader understand that Steele’s point is to pinpoint his ideas on to the audience. Steele writes in a way, that tells us that he’s focusing on teaching ‘nonbelievers’ on the way Atheism overthrows Christianity.
William Paley, however, states his reasoning for his beliefs in God. He first starts with an example. The example includes a watch. He describes that a watch exists because some intelligent person created it. It was designed and was thought about before actually existing. With its existence, it serves an important purpose. This later on developed the concept of Natural theology , which many started to adapt the concept of. According to Paley, the observation analyzed concluded that the universe-maker (God) constructed and designed a supremely complex world. In comparison to objects being made by humans, because humans in this case acquire the knowledge to create. The concept illustrates how every object in this world has a designer, nothing created in this world can’t exist without someone’s intellectual thought of creating an object. The Natural theology is just a minor detail to set the audience to think regularly about day to day objects. One of William Paley’s quote states, “ And the infallible standard of truth in government, economics, and art, would be the most desirable thing…in moral…and his maker God.” This explains how morals without God can’t work. Inorder to perceive morals, there has to be an ultimate standard on what’s good and what’s evil. The way William Paley describes it, is how the bible is the foundation of morals. Even though one may argue that your self-conscious teaches your own morals or based on emotions and society. Parley erases this view, because everyone thinks differently, therefore they have a subjective viewpoint on what’s right and wrong which is definitely not a valid reasoning . Another point brought up that also dealt with moral, he says that if the bible is completely false, then how, “Theocracy, or special divine government, merely as a framework which to weave the history and literature of a nation, code of laws, a system of morals and a scheme of religion..”. Questioning that how can a whole belief, which is primary the development of the world’s view of morals, not have an astonishing evidence on the Bible’s own laws. Furthermore, he explains how Newton’s discoveries was already been established in heaven, saying that Newton did not enact the law of gravitation he simply discovered it. Some scientists have enclosed their mind on God, merely because they tend to outlook the omnipotence of God.
William Paley’s book Evidence of Christanity, falls under the genre of historical non-fiction and religious genre. His target audience is anyone who wants to learn about his reasoning on the existence of God. The tone of the writer seems very descriptive and confident. Aside from William Paley’s observations, many theologians have sought the errors that many scientific theories have. One reason is the claims of the Big Bang theory, that is very popular amongst Atheist. The article, Evolution : The Greatest Hoax On Earth, argues that the Big Bang cosmology doesn’t make any sense, by stating that the earth came to exist from nothing. Ryan Denton states, “In such a world can be no laws, no logical principles, but only randomness”. Expressing that a universe can’t come into existence randomly, because our whole environment and human anatomy is so complex and everything falls in order. Another point made by Ryan Deton is that Darwin’s evolution states that morality is just an “aid to survival and reproduction and thus can’t be considered absolute”. However Denton says, that if you cheat on a test it would still be considered wrong by the professor. Therefore, Darwin’s evolution has no response for that. Deton poses the question, that if it was true what would happen “ If cultures engaged in morally repugnant practices such as slavery and genocide?”. Eventually adding that Christainity alone can “account for morality”, because God is the complete expression of goodness.
When reading both from and Atheist and Theological perspective, it became clear that the belief in God is very important. Whether you believe in God or not, it shapes the way you view things. The atheist perspective brought points that sounded astonishing and correct, because of the use of science. However, when reading from the Christianity perspective, it helped me question where did morality come from? Why do we develop certain emotions when science tells us that our existence don’t really matter.
