How does one’s beliefs affect society today?
The belief in a deity is very important because it helps identify everyone’s perspective and mentality on various things. This question whether or not a deity exists causes various controversies and different perspective on multiple decisions. The purpose of this paper is to realize the importance of beliefs in society today. As time passes, multiple perspectives on political views can be influenced solely on someone’s beliefs. Furthermore, controversail topics like abortion, religious freedom and politics are some of many topics that can be taken into account. These are very crucial, because it’s debated amongst many Americans across the world.
Abortion is legal in the United States, however it is still being adressed as an “unessecary’ act by many people. The law consists in constitution, legislative statutes, administrative regulations, court decisions and to familiarize yourself with abortion, one must look at all abortion laws. The State does not have constitutional authority to prevent the medical procedure of abortion before the fetus is fully developed. The importance of the fetus viability is to explain that once a fetus is capable of developing certain characteristics, then the state government has the power to stop an abortion unless it is done because of an medical issue. During the 18th century, similar abortion laws were passed but wasn’t as fully sucessful because of back lash it was percieved. It was able to be done, but it wasn’t in favor of political leaders or religious folks. Moving on towards the 19th century, a “criminalization” strike was beginning to emerge as abortion started to take more attention from the public. The reason why abortion was debated a lot, was the fact that people had different views on how morally correct it was/ wasn’t. Elizabeth Cady Staton and Susan B Anthony were women’s right advocates who expressed their view on abortion as a “women’s desperate call”. They believed that husbands should be responsible from preventing any sexual act and adopt moral standards in order to place purity amongst their wives. In other words, do not risk the chances of having a baby because of their sexual drive unless they want to conceive one. However, 19th-century feminists believed it was another way men suppress women from having the right to choose. The church had a huge influence on politics and the government that expressed the need to keep abortion illegal. The Roman Catholic Church always shamed the view of abortion as sin. However, around the 20th Century the church had no say in the matter. As abortion started to get more heat for it’s legal use in America the rise of pro-choice and pro-life became a popular term used to indicate what side you identified yourself with. Pro-choice is the expression of allowing a women to have the right to choose if they want to abort their baby. Pro-life expresses the statement that a baby should have the right to live, and be seen as an indiviual. It considers an abortion as a murderous act, while the other side would argue that since the fetus is at an early stage it doesn’t have any function as a human. Abortion becomes tricky, because many people have different views on when it’s right to abort a baby.
To go more in depth on this subject, one must look deeply into the reason why many reufuse or defend the act of abortion. How does beliefs play a major rule on abortion ? When looking into beliefs, Christians/Catholics have a lot of similarities that correlates. The act of abotion is perceived as a sin and therefore its perceived as a wrong action. In contrast to a pro-chice person, because they (Christains/Catholics even Muslims) believe that a baby has all the full rights as a human being, and that killing an innocent child is horrible. Morality hits hard when placings Christain beliefs into the equation. Committing abortion is the same as killing a baby which would result in a crime act, despite of the circumstance the mother is in. However, within the same group of religious folks, abortion would be allowed if the mother was in danger of their life, which also depends on the person. People who stands for pro-choice argues that a fetus can’t survive on it’s own and therefore expressing the statement that “a fetus is a human being” is completely false. This is one of the view that’s held for fighting for the rights of a woman’s choice. There’s many more points that are debated amongst pro-choice and pro-life, but overall the main debate boils down as either seeing the fetus as a indiviual with the right to live (otherwise its consirdered murder and imoral), or as a fetus that’s dependent on the mother with no means of survival if the mother isn’t planning on concieving one.

National Network of Abortion Funds is an non-profit organization that centers in helping with abortion. Their focus is to provide access to women who are struggling financially and facing racial discrimination. Yamani Hernandez, is one of the voices for thousands of women who aren’t able to get abortions. She says, “the National Network of Abortion Funds is laser-focused on scaling up abortion funds with full staffing, full budgets, and the infrastructure needed to support people in accessing and managing their abortions on their own terms”. This organization wants to provide an environment in which women have the right to fight for their freedom. This expresses the need for this organization to help and educate women on how important their rights should be. In addition, this organization makes sure women receive the safest treatments. There are some states that don’t allow abortion like Kentucky Ohio, Alabama, Gerorgia etc.The reason as to why so many states dont allow abortion, is because of the different values that the hold. These states are mainly under the influence of a strong belief system.
Religious views highly affects the way people view or act upon society. It can highly affect the way they act upon certain situations. The previous example of abortion shows how religion can impact someone’s view on controversial topics. To have a doctrine on how to live or how to base your reasoning upon highly influences many decisions. In an article it states,“ The word religion comes from a Latin word that means to tie or to bind together”( Facing History Together). The article conveys that religion can mean multiple things to someone, it can mean being part of a community and/or culture. The importance about beliefs (or not having any), is very intriguing, because it doesn’t only influence your perspective but it also influences your character. It is a form of recognizing that life is established under the existence of God or nothing at all (for atheist). Many teenagers now as they enter college drop from the idea of God based on the scientific evolutionary theory. Thus, the whole journey on evaluating whether continuing their beliefs or forgetting them begins. Why is the belief in God important? Many people crave the answer on why life exist in the first place. A believer would be certain to answer that believing in a higher power means there’s a purpose for everything. Nothing happens coincidentally, and the way you live your life would be a result of your eternity. This becomes a primary reason that many people tend to make decisions based on what they believe in. For an atheist, religion is corruption to the mind, it doesn’t do anything but prevent your own thoughts from flourishing. The way in which religion is perceived to an atheist is “idiotic”. They believe that it’s unnecessary to place your faith in anything. So the view of abortion wouldn’t be seen as morally wrong as it does to a religious person.
Politics is what regulates decisions and is part of governing a country with making certain decisions that impact group of members. This is significant, because of the fact that many people in any country would be constructed under the ideas and influence as a result of politics. It is very essential that people around the world have a voice. People all around the world should be able to say what they believe should happen in any case. Politics affect many lives around the world, it is what brings rules, but it’s more complicated. Politics can either destroy people or help them. The presidency of Trump “is the culmination of all that’s gone wrong in our politics” according tu E.J Dionne Jr. on The Washington Post. The article basically talks about Trump’s sketchy ideas and ways. The quote was very interesting, sharing the idea that Trump is the reason why politics has gone wrong in society today. Trump is known to receive a lot of backlash based on his statements and immigration views. Trump expressed his view on abortion, he stated, “I am strongly pro-life, with the three exception- rape, incest, and protecting the life of a mother”. Some of Trump’s views are based on his so called “Christian beliefs”, people can determine what they decide based on strong beliefs. This is another reason how people in power who practices certain beliefs end up deciding on behalf of their personal beliefs. There is a particular debate that emphasizes on not mixing religion with politics. To many, this statement seems true, but many would argue against it. Everyone has the freedom of voting for anyone they believe is best to take charge in a high platform. So the fact that a particular group of members who vote according to their beliefs might bring chaos, because everyone has different ideas. This would eventually begin to bring forth more debates against who should rule and partake in governmental power. Most people have excluded the idea of the church and its involvement in governmental laws, this makes for various strikes within different groups. Some people would end up fighting for what they believe is correct. The concept of God, is therefore very important because it evaluates the effectiveness of power. As Mackenzie writer of Key concepts in Philosophy states, “within the emergent of Christian forms of political philosophy, philosopher-kings gave way to the ‘divine’ monarchs, and a vision of the ‘good life’… replaced with a vision on how God’s kingdom would be built on earth” showing how the fundamentals of religious principles. Debating on how this country should be governed, would obviously raise the speculation on whether or not a person is choosing based on what they think is moral. This separates the two worldviews (Atheist and Theists) from the perspective of how the world should either include or erase the view of religion in society.
Overall, this research was to direct the reader in a serious manner when talking about sensitive subjects to some. If you believe in anything, you would be highly affected by how you view the world and what decisions you make.
